Twin house is composed of two houses that are joined on one side. Each of the two houses is dedicated to an individual family. It is a special community on its own.
Firstly, we imagined a few different family situations and according to that we composed several possible neighbour situations. They can be as following: two young families, two friend-families, a family and their grandparents, two elderly couples, a large family and a young couple that works at home...
Then we proposed various houses – a twin unit where we offer several different ground plans for each unit, each one corresponding to different family situations. We then combined the twin houses in a way that we composed the basic units according to the expected scheme – we provided a mirror picture of the units, we turned them around, set them up in series etc. In this way we provided diversity and the possibility of more solutions to the complicated restrictions of each allotment, orientation, entrances and sides of access to the houses.
Architecturally, the twin houses are the first stage of compressing individual housing construction.
Such way of construction is more economical due to a smaller surface or width of the allotment, but most of all, due to the common wall which ensures lower construction and energy expenses.
Concentration of construction makes more sense in urban areas; that is why we dedicated a lot of time to designing modern twin houses with flat roofs. We also prepared a line of twin houses with gable roofs which can be interpreted in a classical, as well as in a modern way.
The different types of twin houses were named D1, D2, D3, D4 and D5.
